Description: 1970 United States Mint SilverProof SetThe 1970 Proof Set showed a marked decline in mintage from the prior two years sets. The line-up was the same five coins, one for each denomination minted at the San Francisco Mint and carrying the āSā mint mark. Notably, this year was the last time the Kennedy Half Dollar was struck in 40% silver for circulation. The 1970-S Kennedy Half Dollar was the last 40% silver coin produced for inclusion in an annual Proof Set until the composition was revived for a special 1976 Bicentennial Silver Proof Set.The face value of the coins was 91 cents and the sets were sold by the U.S. Mint for $5.00 each. The original packaging consisted of the coins sealed in a plastic lens with a black plastic holder for the coins. This was placed into a blue cardboard box.
