Description: Note: Please study the images carefully to determine the condition of this vintage photograph, as it may not be in perfect condition. It may contain wrinkles, cracks, and possibly even tears due to its age and how it was handled before it got to us. A scanner may interpret colors and contrast differently than human eyes will, so it is possible that the actual photograph may be slightly darker or lighter in person. Pacific Palisades, California: Jamison Handy Jr. of Pacific Palisades, California demonstrates how he hooked the 108-volt battery from his 1916 Detroit Electric to his house electric system yesterday to provide temporary relief when a power failure darkened about 200,000 homes just before dawn. Handy, 51, an electrical engineer, said he had to unplug such appliances as the refrigerator and television set which won't accept direct current. And he had to pull the main switch at the house, so the car battery's current wouldn't run into neighbors' houses. Electric PowerPhoto measures 8 x 10inches. Photo is dated 01-25-1966.
