He spent two years in the minors as a teenager before serving in the Military for two years in ‘53 and ‘54. He return to Pittsburg and played for the Pirates for the next six seasons and accumulated a record of 66 wins and 91 losses. The Pirates were the first of nine different ball clubs for which Kline would pitch. In 1962, he would strictly relieve until he was released by the Atlanta Braves in 1970. While in Pittsburg in the first third of his professional life, he distinguished himself by leading the league in losses two years running. On a more positive note, Kline led the league in saves with 29 while with the Senators in ‘65. Other than that, Kline can be recognized for his longevity, which he extended for one year in the minors before retiring.
