Disguised as Russians, four East Germans escaped through checkpoint Charlie in the Berlin Wall. The event was kept quiet for some time to enable others to duplicate the feat. Whether anyone else did, however, has not been disclosed. The four anonymous Germans were two Dresden university students and a photographer and his girl friend. They bought an old Russian car, slicked it up and tailored three Russian uniforms. Then, with the girl crouching under the dash, they drove to west Berlin while East German police saluted.
