Description: Very Rare Find. A Flannel game worn jersey worn by New York Yankee pitcher Steve Hamilton in the 1964 World Series. He is only one of 2 athletes to play in both the World Series and NBA Finals (Gene Conley being the other). He played in the 1959 NBA finals with the Minneapolis Lakers as well. This jersey was passed down to the minor leagues with its final resting place in Johnson City in 1969 (baseball 100th anniversary patch). This jersey has the designation of 1965, and is made by Wilson. There is very good documentation that the 1965 Wilson jerseys were reused jerseys from the 1964 World Series (Spalding and MacGregor made the other sets in '64 and '65) . The Mickey Mantle 1964 World Series jersey that sold for over $1 million has all the same Wilson tagging as this one. mlbcollectors.com also mentions this. The neck tag has the year 1965 and Hamilton stitched in, the back is the original #39, and the front has the original faint NEW YORK outline where the stitching was removed, I added these pics, with a quick rough red-line drawing around where the letters should be, along with ones behind a light where you can it yourself. JOHNSON CITY has been added later on as this was recycled down to the minors as it was a common cost-cutting practice. There are flaws, large tear in sleeve and the flannel feels thin after about 5 years of use. I am putting it up here, but if it doesn’t sell, I’ll most likely send it to Bill Henderson who does great work and documentation.
