Description: 1964 8mm home movie, Italy -- Focus on architecture and sights of Rome, Naples, Tuscany, and Pompeii One half-full 7” reel (see photo) — about 15-20 minutes of footage This 8mm film documents a work/vacation trip to Italy in 1964 and seems to be the work of a Washington DC-based architect or civil engineer — I can’t be sure, but other reels from his estate (and his specific focus on architecture and design highlights) suggest he took these trips to broaden his professional horizons. The camera work is surprisingly good, lots of slow pans of important architectural sites and buildings. Very little “Auntie Edna waving at the camera” footage — just 15-20 minutes of tastefully composed, competently shot, vividly colorful 8mm film, documenting what would be of interest to a prominent Washington, DC architect or civil engineer in 1964. Lots of focus on architectural design elements in the Rome and Naples footage, including the Trevi Fountain and other important sites. Film appears to be in good shape, runs smoothly and has no vinegar smell, though some splices are getting old and delicate.
