1964-83 Triumph T120, T140, Bonneville, Tiger, Chain Side Crankcase Protecter

Description: This listing is for one (1), NEW, ultra-high-molecular-weight polyethylene (UHMWPE), hard block protector to protect the chain side crankcase on unit 650/750 Triumph twins manufactured from 1964-83. Most, (but not all) of these motorcycles had a hole drilled above the drive chain in the crankcase, where the chain enters the case. Records show in 1968, Triumph began using a steel bracket (70-8892 or 70-7571) to protect the chain side crankcase. Later, Triumph stopped installing this bracket and plugged the hole with a rubber grommet (70-7573). If your motorcycle has a rubber grommet as pictured in this listing, or the metal OEM bracket, this Protector represents an essential upgrade. On Triumphs without a hole, drilling one will be necessary. There are four parts to this little piece. The hard UHMWPE block, stainless bolt, stainless washer and stainless nylock nut. In the event of the drive chain snapping or being too loose, the block protects the crankcase from being smashed, gouged or grooved. There is nothing good about a groovy crankcase. The original OEM metal bracket was prone to simply going MIA. Either by snapping or rusting off. Installation is a little tedious as it will involve removing at least the chainguard. Perhaps the chain slacked off if you have large meat hooks. We use a 4mm Allen key inserted into the bolt inside of the plastic block to guide the bolt through the crankcase hole. The nylock nut tightens with an 11mm socket. The tapered side of the protector faces the rear of the motorcycle.
