The tornado, one of several spawned by the dying hurricane Carla, injured many among the 1,000 refugees who jammed the county courthouse (upper right) to escape the fury of Carla, which raked Galveston with 125-mile-an-hour winds, September 11th. The number of deaths caused by the tornado was not immediately established. Photo measures 8.25 x 10 inches. Photo Is dated 1961.
