Description: Handsome 1961 official fold-out highway map of Montana, printed more than 62 years ago. This map opens to a generous 19" x 36" and has great detail on old road alignments, with cartography by Rand McNally. The Interstate Highway System was in its infancy when this map was printed, and there are only short sections of I-15, I-90, and I-94 completed. There is a place-name index and a printed message from Governor Donald G. Nutter. On the reverse side of the map there are photographs of scenes around the state, including Yellowstone and Glacier National Parks, the Lewis and Clark Cavern State Park, and U.S. Route 10 between St. Regis and Missoula. . The map was issued by the Montana State Highway Commission, Helena, and is dated 1961. The front cover photograph shows a fisherman trying his luck on the Gallatin River.
