Owned and operated now by the Canadian National Railway (CN) since 1998, the IC was one of the earlier US lines, operating from Chicago through Illinois, Kentucky, Tennessee, Louisiana, Mississippi and Alabama to the Gulf Coast. The IC had major financial issues, due to part to track redundancy and to maintenance issues. In 1972 it merged with the Gulf, Mobile & Ohio Railroad (GM&O) and formed the Illinois Central Gulf (ICG), but its issues were not resolved by this merger, as the two served similar areas and had common problems. After a period of non-public ownership, the ICG was acquired by the CN. The IC has a major part in railroad lore. The famed "City of New Orleans" was an IC train between Chicago and New Orleans. It also operated the "City of Miami" and the "Panama Limited" with other railroads. Burdening the IC financially were its significant commuter rail services in the Chicago area, which later were taken over by government-controlled entities. For auction is a blank breakfast menu card from the IC; while undated, it is from the early 1960s. The IC would print the breakfast menu on this card for passengers to select their meals; passengers could retain it as a souvenir. The back of the card contains a promotional message for dining car meals and a place for the passenger to record highlights of his/her trip. The card measures appx 8x5 inches and is printed on a thick cardstock. It is unused and in excellent condition -- no spills or smears, no rips or tears, no writing or markings. A nice collectible for any fan of the IC or the ICG. Pictures sell! Auctiva offers Free Image Hosting and Editing.300+ Listing Templates! Auctiva gets you noticed! The complete eBay Selling Solution.
