Description: FULLY IN GERMAN. The translation of the title is, Turning Point in Construction. Authored by NOTED GERMAN ARCHITECT, WHO BEAUTIFULLY INSCRIBED, DATED (1959), AND SIGNED THE BOOK ON THE FIRST FREE ENDPAPER. The autograph has not been authenticated, but is consistent with the only other example of his handwriting and signature I could find, which is on a listing of this same book. This other inscription and signature, first name only, is shown in the last listing photo. The handwriting and the signature of the first name are very consistent, as seen. Also, the book was inscribed to Warren Robbins and this book was purchased from his estate, in the Washington DC metropolitan area. He was a noted art curator in the Washington DC area - see bio below. The book is in Very Good Condition. The dust jacket jacket was found folded in the book - creases are seen in the front and rear covers of the jacket. The jacket is worn with tears and small pieces along the edges, but is bright and now handsomely portrayed in a mylar jacket. The eggshell white cloth boards show light to moderate corner wear, light edge wear, some light soiling (particularly on the spine), with age-toning around the edges. The book pages are clean and solidly bound with no further ink markings, but there is age-toning around the edges. 239 pages, B&W illustrations in abundance. The inscription is heartfelt to a friend. Here is a brief bio of Warren Robbins from Wikipedia: "Warren Murray Robbins (September 4, 1923 – December 4, 2008) was an American art collector, whose collection of African art led to the formation of the National Museum of African Art at the Smithsonian Institution... ... While working as a cultural attaché for the State Department at the United States Embassy in Bonn, he was walking the streets of Hamburg in the late 1950s or early 1960s with future United States Senator S. I. Hayakawa when he impulsively entered into an antiques shop and spent $15 on a carved-wood figure of a man and woman, the work of the Yoruba people of Nigeria. Back in Hamburg a year later, he spent $1,000 on 32 African masks, textiles and other pieces in a different shop. Returning to the United States, Robbins purchased a home in Washington, D.C. which he decorated with the 33 items he had brought back from Europe, and adorned the rooms with tropical plants to evoke the jungles of Africa. After an article was printed about his collection in The Washington Post, he invited in curious visitors who started appearing at his door to take a look.[2] He created this informal museum in his basement as part of an effort to promote cultural communication during the Civil Rights Movement. Robbins was unapologetic in the face of complaints that he was a white man operating a museum of African art, noting that "I make no apologies for being white. You don't have to be Chinese to appreciate ancient ceramics, and you don't have to be a fish to be an ichthyologist." " Here is a bio on Konrad Wachsmann from Wikipedia: Konrad Wachsmann (May 16, 1901 in Frankfurt an der Oder, Germany – November 25, 1980 in Los Angeles, California) was a German Jewish modernist architect. He is notable for his contribution to the mass production of building components... ...In 1938 he emigrated to Paris and in 1941 to the United States, where he began a collaboration with Walter Gropius and developed the "Packaged House System", a design for a house which could be constructed in less than nine hours. Before the end of the Second World War he also developed a mobile aircraft hangar for the Atlas Aircraft Corporation. He would later design aircraft hangars for the U.S. Air Force in the 1960s. In 1943 he assisted the war effort by helping the US air-force construct the German Village (Dugway proving ground), a simulation of German working class dwellings to be used to perfect fire-bombing techniques on German residential areas."
