Summerfield is shown taking the first missile mail letters from the Regulus I guided missile following its successful historic flight on June 8, 1959 from the guided missile submarine USS Barbero at sea. Deputy Postmaster General Edson O. Sessions, locking over Mr. Summerfield's shoulder, and naval personnel at the naval auxiliary air station at Mayport, Florida, where the landing was made, look on during this first unloading of a missile mail letter.
