Description: This listing is for rare medal from a private dinner honoring American Maxwell Abbell, and David Ben Gurion, Israel's first Prime Minister. This medal measures 1 5/8" across and weighs 25 grams. This appears to be bronze plated over white metal. Maxwell Abbell was a zionist, philanthropist, lawyer, and businessman. He immigrated from Poland with this parents at the age of 3. Abbell was the assistant executive director of the Jewish Charities of Chicago (1925–37), chairman of the Chicago College of Jewish Studies (1950–54), president of the United Synagogue of America (1950–53), and a founder of the World Council of Synagogues in 1957. His philanthropical activities were devoted mainly to the State of Israel and the Jewish Theological Seminary of America. For 2 years he was a member of President Dwight Eisenhower's administration as chairman of the President's Committee on Government Employment Policy. Sadly, he died just 2 months after this dinner honoring him. Obverse: Pictured is a sword and olive branch. It is captioned "TESTIMONIAL DINNER HONORING MAXWELL ABBELL MAY 12, 1957" and has the artist's name stamped just below "BOGOFF". Reverse: Pictures bust of David Ben Gurion looking to the right and is captioned "9TH ANNIVERARY OF THE STATE OF ISRAEL DAVID BEN GURION". Some of the bronze plating has come off and there is a small dent on one side. Please see the photos for more detail. Money-back guarantee. I will combine multiple purchases to save on shipping.
