It is dated 1954 and was signed by Deputy Governor Gerald K. Bouey and Governor Louis Rasminsky. These two gentlemen were only in office together from January 1, 1972 until February 1, 1973. Canada has long since dispensed with one-dollar bills in favor of the "Loonie" $1 coin, and no longer prints or circulates them. In 1954 when these notes first came out, some people fancied they saw a leering demonic face in the highlights of the Queen's hair. The engraving was changed during the earlier Beattie-Coyne signature combination to remove the "Devil's Face" and this is the "Modified Portrait".
