Description: Vintage fold-out 1953 Standard Oil Company road map of the central United States, printed more than 70 years ago. This map opens to 18" x 38" and has great detail on old highway alignments, including U.S. Routes 2, 30, 40, 50, 66, and 80, with cartography by H.M. Gousha. The coverage area includes Illinois, Wisconsin, Iowa, Minnesota, Kansas, Nebraska, Missouri, Indiana, Ohio, Michigan, Colorado, Oklahoma, Texas, New Mexico, Arizona, Louisiana, Mississippi, Arkansas, North and South Dakota, and parts of Montana, Kentucky, Tennessee, Nevada, and Wyoming. The map was distributed by the Standard Oil Company of Indiana in 1953 and is dated by the code number in the lower margin: 12-AA. The front cover artwork shows Standard's distinctive red-white-and-blue oval service station sign, which had replaced the rectangular Standard Service sign at gas stations a half dozen years before this map was printed. There's a Standard service station on the back cover, with the company's Red Crown and White Crown gas pumps. Condition: This map is in very good, lightly used condition, with no rips, tears, or writing. Please see the scans and feel free to ask any questions. Buy with confidence!
