Nearing the end of a concert tour that started October 1, she checked into a Schroeder hotel room 19 floors above the noise of Wisconsin Avenue to rest before a performance at Manitowoc Monday night. Miss Thebom put aside a book on Italy for an interview in which she described operatic developments that she hopes will change opera going from a cultural chore to sheer fun.
