Every one of the coins and stamps is an original from 1953, and while they are all important in their own right, they are highly significant as a set.The Coronation Crown was only ever issued for one year, and featured the distinctive "Equestrian Portrait" of Her Majesty on horseback, in place of the customary facial portrait.In 1954 Her Majesty's titles were changed on the coinage which means the 1953 coins are the only ones ever issued with these original titles.The 1953 halfcrown, florin, shillings, sixpence and threepence were all new designs never seen before, making each of these coins the very first of their kind.There were two kinds of shilling coin- one with the English lions, the other with the single lion motif of Scotland- and both are in this set.The 1953 penny was never released into circulation, only ever being struck for collector sets of that year, making it the smallest production penny in the entire reign of Her Majesty.The farthing was discontinued in 1956 making the 1953 issue the first of just four coins of this type.The four commemorative stamps were only ever issued for a short period of time in 1953 making all four vital for collectors.The one-and-threepence stamp featured a portrait of Her Majesty that was only ever used on that one issue. In fact, it is the only predecimal stamp ever to feature a portrait of Her Majesty that is different to the 'definitive' portrait that appeared on all other stamps.
