Description: 1952 1st EDITION JOURNEY TO THE FAR PACIFIC This listing features a fascinating memoir by the former Governor of New York, Thomas E. Dewey (1902-1971). Dewey was a busy guy. He served as the 47th governor of New York from 1943 to 1954 and before that, he was a New York City prosecutor and District Attorney. Dewey was dedicated to ending the American Mafia and is famous for prosecuting Mafia kingpin Charles "Lucky" Luciano in 1936. Sadly, some things never change — the charges were forced prostitution. He was also the Republican Party's nominee for U. S. President in 1944 and 1948, losing the latter to Harry S. Truman in a major upset. He toured ’the Orient’ while 5 Communist revolutions were raging in Korea, Indo-China, the Philippines, ‘Malaya’ and Indonesia. “Journey to the Far Pacific” is his eyewitness account of that pivotal time in World history. One has to wonder how history may have been different if he had defeated Truman for President. This is the 1952 First Edition, published by Doubleday & Company, New York. The book is in great condition, the dust jacket, not so much, but it is present and in good color. It consists of 335 pages, including personal photos, an Introduction, Contents, and timely maps on both endsheets. It measures 8 1/2 inches tall by 5 3/4 inches wide by 1 1/4 inches thick. No militaria library should be without this book, or anyone interested in world history. Please inspect all of the photos to see exactly what you will receive. For more about Thomas E.
