Description: This is the SEPTEMBER 1951 issue (see pictures) of THE NEW REPUBLICAN magazine, published quarterly in Detroit, Michigan. This magazine, 28 pages in length, is significant for two reasons. FIRST, it covers the "Draft Eisenhower for President" movement in both narrative and in pictures. In fact, Page 27 is a blank, unused "Draft Eisenhower for President Petition". SECOND, this magazine was the PERSONAL COPY of prominent education leader, LEE M. THURSTON, as evidenced by the address label. In September 1951, Dr. Thurston was Michigan's Superintendent of Public Instruction. In 1952, he was appointed United States Commissioner of Education, a position he held until his death at age 58 in 1953. LEE M. THURSTON HIGH SCHOOL, located in Redford, Michigan, was named in his honor. This magazine is clean and intact, exhibiting light wear and creasing (particularly the back cover) from handling and storage over the past 70 years. There is no handwriting in the magazine. It would make a nice addition to your own collection, or it would make a wonderful gift for that Dwight Eisenhower enthusiast, Dr. Lee Thurston historian, or vintage publication collector in your life! Postage is $3.50. And, of course I'll combine postage on multiple purchases. Sorry, NO international shipping. Be sure to check the other items in my eBay store, too!
