Description: 1950s Yonezawa Japan Tin Battery Operated Directional Robot With Original Box. Metallic blue tin battery-operated robot which was made in Japan by Yonezawa in 1957. Some robots from the fifties and sixties became so popular that they were given new names. This robot’s original name is ROBOT. He became his “new” name ‘Directional Robot’ because he looks in the direction he goes after he bumps into an obstacle. When turned on, this robot finds his way with mystery bump & go action and turns his lighted head in the direction he then goes. His arms swing loosely, and he produces a strange robot sound. After testing the robot with batteries, it does exactly as described above and is in FULLY WORKING condition. The robot looks like it has hardly ever been played with and is a truly stunning example. The robot is accompanied by its RARE original box with head and base protective inserts which is in good condition for its age showing usual expected signs of wear, tears and creasing to ends, corners and sides. There is some aged tape/glue repair to the inside of the lid and to a couple of tears to improve stability and appearance. Approx. 28cm tall. Requires 2 x D cell batteries (not included).
