It uses a photocell for an automatic exposure setting, which proved to be accurate, and screw and pin flash contacts for use with a variety of flash holders. In August of 1961 the Starmatic II was introduced with a two-tone grey body and two speed shutter. Variations:August 1961 - August 1963: Starmatic II with two-tone grey body and two speed shutter Fun Facts:This fun little Brownie Starmatic camera uses 127 film, keeping the size small, while delivering a 1 5/8" X 1 5/8" negative that was either contact printed or enlarged. This seems to have been marketed to the camera user who wanted a camera that needed something set but wanted to point and shoot. The automatic exposure feature pumped the price up quite high for a Brownie camera. I did find, using the camera pictured above, that when the film speed is set on the little dial, that the automatic exposure via the photocell was quite accurate and produced excellent results!
