The 1950's Major Leaguers "Popcorn" Card [#18] MARTY MARION ~ Chicago White Sox from scarce 1975 collector-issued set Collector-photographer Ed Broder issued this card as part of a 28 card set in the mid-1970s - about the same time as he issued his comprehensive 235-card "Popcorn card" set depicting 1950s Pacific Coast League players. The set set from which this card comes, however, depicts Major League players who appeared in the majors for at least a portion of the 1950s. The Standard Catalog of Baseball Cards notes, in part: "The set [of which this card is part] is notable in that a number of familiar players are pictured with teams not seen on their Topps and Bowman cards." Issued in typical Broder fashion, the card features a borderless black and white photograph in approximately 2" by 3" size and features only the subject's name on the front. The backs are blank and due to the borderless design, cutting is sometimes imprecise. Cards are unnumbered but have been arbitrarily assigned numbers by baseball hobbyists in their alphabetical order within the set.
