Item 482345 ◊ 1948 'Gaston and Josephine' Little Golden Book 1st Ed. 'A', by Georges Duplaix Beautiful and touching "1948 'Gaston and Josephine' Little Golden Book 1st Ed 'A'." The story was written by Georges Duplaix and copyrighted in 1933. It was first published by Simon and Schuster, New York, and copyrighted 1948. Illustrated by Feodor Rojankovsky. This and many other early "Little Golden Books were prepared under the supervision of Mary Reed PhD. (formerly of Teachers College, Columbia University.) This book designed and produced by The Sandpiper Press and Artists and Writers Guild. Printed in the USA by Western Printing and Lithographing Co. This classic book measures approximately 6-3/4" X 8", and 42 pages long (unnumbered), plus color or black & white illustrations on every page. The story: Gaston and Josephine are two very rosy French pigs who live with their mother and father on a little farm in the mountains in France. Their uncle in America has invited them to come and visit their little cousins. They begin with a look around Paris, but manage to miss their train. The Mayor lends them his bicycle, and they finally reach the ship. A fog closes in, but the little pigs squeak as loud as they can to warn other ships. In New York they are greeted as heroes, but discover that they still have three more days on the train, because their uncle's ranch is out west. "Oh we don't mind. We love to travel," they said. Condition: This book was obviously well loved and well read by it's owners, but is still in good to very good condition. The cover is sound, although there is wear to the corners, and surfaces, as well as a small "nick" in the bottom front edge. Some child also get creative with the paint set on the back cover. The golden tape is still in place, though a little worn and missing in a couple small sections. Note that the "golden" tape is golden in color, but not metallic like later books. The book is complete; no missing pages, tears, creases, or foxing on the interior pages. Just lots of color and fun. All graphics are sharp & clear. Over all the book is clean inside and out, although someone wrote Mrs. Engle's name in the first page. Still, you'd never know that it is more than 70 years old. Please see a total of the 17 photos above and below, to confirm the contents and condition of this little book.Joyful and a very rare find, the "1948 'Gaston and Josephine' Little Golden Book," is a great addition to your child's classic reading library, or any historical collection for display or as a reference guide!!-------------------------Be sure to check out the other listings for a number of other books for Children and Adults, as well as other ephemera which are also being offered for sale from PENchantiques this week, and in the coming weeks on eBay!!! 112124-Ns OUR POLICIES COMMUNICATION: We want you to be happy with your transaction, and GOOD COMMUNICATION is the key to YOUR HAPPINESS.
