Description: This 2 ¾” x 4 5/8” coated stock card promoting Riley Alvin Bender as a hopeful candidate for the Republican nomination for President in 1948 is in fine condition, with no tears, bends, or stains. It has a Chicago address, presumably that of his headquarters. It contains both his photo and a brief statement of his platform, which involves tax reform. Bender (1890-1973) was born in Chicago, and was a prize fighter hotel manager, and seed wholesaler. He was a candidate in the Democratic primary for Illinois State Senate, 11th district in 1938. Switching parties, he became a candidate for the Republican nomination for President in 1944, 1948, and 1952. Scarce.
