The Pittsburgh Courier newspaper is an African-American controlled and published newspaper. Its news, ads and editorial content is highly focused on topics of interest to NEGR0 AMERICANS. The Pittsburgh Courier was an African American weekly newspaper published in Pittsburgh from 1907 until October 22, 1966. By the 1930s, the Courier was one of the leading black newspapers in the United States. The Courier worked as a tool for social progress. Upon the entrance of the United States into World War Two, the editors of the Pittsburgh Courier nominated African American journalist Frank E. Bolden to be an accredited war correspondent. Bolden was one of only two African American war correspondents accepted, and became a nationally recognized journalist. This issue contains news, sports, ads, editorials and coverage of interest to African-Americans that the "main stream" media (read "White media") failed to cover in this era of JIM CROW racial segregation. This rare African-American post-WW II newspaper contains much detailed coverage of "Jim Crow" racial segregation in the South, coverage of the Jews vs Arabs conflict in Palestine (it was sympathetic to the Arabs from the African-American point of view), and comic strips featuring NEGR0 CHARACTERS (unusual in 1946). Good condition. This listing includes the original newspaper second news section, NOTthe entire newspaper. STEPHEN A.
