From Wikipedia : Miraculously undamaged and having suffered only four casualties during 16 months in the Pacific, this veteran steamed into San Francisco 6 July 1945. Released from drydock overhaul 30 August, Lewis Hancock was girding herself to return to the war when the Japanese surrendered.
