Description: This 3 ¼ ” x 5 ½ ” black on white postcard spoofs the 1944 Presidential campaign of Thomas Dewey and John Bricker. The back features a cartoon of two partisans engaged in a fist fight. Salt River items go back at least as far as Henry Clay. The story goes that while campaigning in Kentucky, he asked a boatman to take him to his next stop, The Boatman, secretly an anti-Clay partisan, took him up Salt River to a dead end. The term came to mean oblivion in a political context. There are numerous Salt River tickets for a variety of political campaigns, generally printed up after an election to needle the loser. The card has been posted but generally is in very good condition.
