Using a G-E electronic heater to convert ordinary 60-cycle electric current to 500,000-cycle current, small laboratory samples of silicon steel are inductively heated to 2700 degrees Fahrenheit to determine the amount of carbon present within 1/1000th of one per cent. The lower the carbon content of this steel when used in transformers, the smaller the power loss. Thus in detecting minute quantities which formerly passed unnoticed, the test guards against use of inferior steel. Photo measures 8 x 10 inches. Photo Is dated 1943.
