Description: British Orientalists by A. J. Arberry. Vintage Hardback Book with Dust Jacket. Published by William Collins of London 1943 with plates in colour and illustrations in black and white. This is a First Edition. It contains 8 plates in colour and 20 illustrations in black and white. On the inside of the dust jacket it states:"This is a brilliant and fascinating study of a very little known aspect of British enterprise and scholarship. Professor Arberry is himself and Orientalist in the tradition of Sir William Jones, E. G. Browne, E. H. Palmer and all those other indefatigable British Pioneers who, between them, have been responsible for making the literature and knowledge of the East available to the West......". This book is in a lovely vintage condition. The dust jacket is showing signs of wear, but it is intact, except for some tears at the edges. However, this has protected the hard cover well, which is in a fantastic condition for its age. There are some small marks of age, light tanning, and light foxing throughout this book and a slight mark to the picture on page 41 (see photo), but this is consistent with a book that is over 80 years old, and overall the pages are very neat and they are un-creased. All 48 pages and pictures are present. The binding overall is good, although it is a little loose between pages 32 to 33 and at the bottom of between pages 40 and 41. However, the pages are still attached well. Please study the photos carefully as to the condition of this book, as they do form part of the description. This measures approximately 22.9 cm by 16.8 cm and a width of 0.8 cm and an approximate weight of 180 grams. Thank you so much for looking.
