Description: This is a rare, collectible Columbia Records set C-81, Marek Weber Presents "In Old Vienna" a 4-disc 78 RPM record album, released in 1942. This record album has been in the same family since it was purchased and is being sold by the granddaughter of the original owner. Marek Weber was a violinist and bandleader. He was born in Lviv, Ukraine in 1888. In 1906, he moved to Berlin, Germany to study at the Stern Conservatory. At the age of 20 he established his own orchestra, then in 1923, he became the resident bandleader at the Hotel Adlon in Berlin. In the1920s, he and his orchestra began to make recordings and during this period he was one of the foremost recording artists in Germany. In late 1932, he left Germany, then settled in the United States in 1937. There he broadcasted on the NBC Radio Network and was billed as the "Radio Waltz King". Marek Weber's musical tastes were conservative so his orchestra was known for playing Viennese waltzes of which these recordings are examples. He became a citizen of the United States on February 5, 1943. After World War II he retired from show business and bequeathed his personal collection of violins to the Indiana University School of Music.
