Please take a look at my other merchandise at your leisure.You are bidding on: Rare Original Film Negative Guenther's Murrieta Hot Springs Courtyard & Outdoor Plunge ~ 1949 ~ Rare & historic, large format 5x7 inch film negative taken at Guenther's Murrieta Hot Springs ~ showing the famous Riverside County, California resort as it looked in June 1949. Though in generally Excellent Vintage Condition, the negative may have small scratches, imperfections or old fingerprints, etc. Photographer is assumed to be Bob Plunkett (Angeleno Photo Service). Watermark is for protection of buyer and seller and does not appear on the negative you'll receive.~ * ~ * ~ * ~ Some History: In October of 1902 German immigrant Frederick Guenther purchased 294 acres of land which surrounded a natural mineral hot spring near the town of Murrieta. On the property were the remnants of an abandoned steam laundry service as well as evidence of a previous attempt to create a health resort. Over the course of the next 10 years, Fritz Guenther developed a health spa reminiscent of European spas he had seen during his childhood. For nearly 70 years the Guenther family owned, managed, and grew the resort to become what has been called "California's Greatest Health Resort." During the first half of the twentieth century, it was a favorite resort for Jewish residents of Southern California and beyond. In 1970, the Guenther family sold the property. From 1983 to 1987, a group called Alive Polarity established a religious commune on the property. They lived by a strict code of nonviolence and vegetarianism, and abstained from caffeine, tobacco, television, and telephones. During the early to mid-1990s, a popular nightclub called Shakespeare's Pub and Grill operated from the springs. In 1995, the property was sold to Calvary Chapel of Costa Mesa, which used it as a Bible college, popular Christian retreat center, and spiritual sanctuary for Christian training and enlightenment. In August 2022 it was announced that Calvary Chapel Bible College was sold to Olympus Real Estate Group for $50 million. The group reportedly intends to renovate the facility and reopen as a health spa resort.Large Format Film Negative Measures 5 x 7 Inches. In Very Good to Excellent Condition.
