Description: Franklin D. Roosevelt was up for an unprecedented third term in 1940 when he ran against Wendell Willkie. In fact, FDR is indirectly responsible for the 22nd Amendment which restricts a US President to just two terms.The first button has the words “No 3rd Term” in black letters on orange background. It measures approx. 1” in diameter and in fine condition, the front is smooth and glossy, the back shows a bit of discoloration but no rust. I believe this to be an authentic 1940 button: there is a Union ‘bug’ on the edge. The inside (see the pic) has a union stamp and some of the words that I can make out are: “Local 115 Shop 3” and “Union Label”.The second button has the words “Roosevelt Goodbye Hello Willkie” in black letters on an orange background. It measures approx. 1.25” in diameter and is in fine condition, no flaws, back is discolored but not rusted. This might be an original but I can’t confirm it: it is the same color scheme as the first button, it is the same construction as the first button; however, there is no Union ‘bug’.The third button is a reproduction, made in 1980. It has the words “Okay America” in white letters on red, and You Bet – I’m With You” in white letters on blue, and his picture superimposed on a picture of the Capitol on a white background. It measures approx. 2.25” in diameter and is in near fine condition, slight scratches to the front, no rust on the back. The fourth button is also a reproduction, made in 1980. It shows an elephant with a lot of slogans, please see pic. One of the most amusing is “Grand Old Pirate”. It measures approx. 1.75” in diameter and is in near fine condition, slight scratches to the front, no rust on back.
