Description: A curious and RARE educational tool published by the Educational Division, Bituminous Coal Institute, A Department of the National Coal Association. There is no date of publication, but the address on the back of this is, "Washington 5, D.C.", which would give a clue as to its date of publication. Postal zip codes were introduced in 1943. Before that, addresses were commonly "city, postal zone", so this address of Washington 5 was before 1943, maybe 1940? The front and rear boards show moderate edge and corner wear, light soiling around slightly faded green cloth with red, yellow, and black lettering and decoration. The "book" opens to paper and compartment paste downs. There is text to the left of the compartments, which contain minerals and products associated with coal. Each compartment is still sealed and its plastic window unbroken. The contents of each compartment are unaffected and appear to retain their original color and character. The paste downs do have soiling and a previous owner inked her name on bottom of second text column. B90
