This vintage photograph is offered for sale as a collectible item and conveys no transfer of copyright. 1939 Press Photo Passenger train of German Railroads on trial run - kfx68149 A speed of 133.6 miles per hour was maintained for runs up to 22 minutes by the latest passenger train of the German Railroads, shown above, on its recent trial runs between Berlin and Hamburg. It easily holds a sustained speed of 124 miles on long-distance runs. The new flyer's motive power consists of Diesel-electric equipment with twin Maybach engines of 600 horsepower each. It has three cars, in which it accommodates 100 passengers and carries dining and other facilities customary on long distance trains. The designer is Professor Franz Kruckenberg, whose "Zeppelin train" created a sensation some years ago. Many of the principles of the "Zeppelin on rails" are applied to its successor. The new train will be placed in regular service on the Hamburg-Berlin run shortly. Photo measures 9.5 x 6 inches. Photo Is dated 1939.
