ALONG WITH OTHER HALL OF FAMERS CARL HUBBEL AND RED FUFFING. RED ROLFE AND RICHARD BARTEL WITH THE NEW YORK GIANTS BY CARL NESENSOHN, 1937, 8 X 10". Baseball writers are Warren Brown, Sid Merur, Christy Walsh, Hist Muller and James Isamenger. The Giants' mainstay of the 1930s, Carl Hubbell led the club to three pennants in a five-year span, during which he averaged 23 victories a season and was twice named MVP. Baffling hitters with a devastating screwball, "The Meal Ticket" compiled a streak of 46 1/3 scoreless innings in 1933 and won 16 straight games in 1936 (and a record 24 over two seasons). The nine-time All-Star remains famed for his performance in the 1934 All-Star Game when he fanned Babe Ruth, Lou Gehrig, Jimmie Foxx, Al Simmons and Joe Cronin - in succession. Hubbel was elected to the Hall of Fame in 1947. Red Ruffing overcame adversity to achieve pitching stardom. As a youngster he lost four toes on his left foot in a mine accident, which hastened a transition from the outfield to the mound. After suffering through a 39-96 mark with the Red Sox, his career blossomed when he was traded to the Yankees in 1930. An instrumental part of seven pennant winners, Ruffing won seven of nine World Series decisions. His 273 career victories include a four-year stretch (1936 to 1939) when he won at least 20 games per season. Ruffing was elected to the Hall of Fame in 1967. Joe DiMaggio is remembered as one of the game's most graceful athletes - a "picture player" both at bat and in center field. Many rate his 56-consecutive-game hitting streak in 1941 as the top baseball feat of all time. "The Yankee Clipper" used an unusually wide stance in winning two batting championships and three MVP awards. In 13 seasons he amassed 361 homers, averaged 118 RBI annually and compiled a .325 lifetime batting mark. At baseball's 1969 Centennial Celebration, he was named the game's greatest living player. DiMaggio's rookie season was the year before in 1936. A VERY IMPORTANT PIECE OF BASEBALL HISTORY. Pay with PAYPAL-you can charge it!
