Description: Extremely rare and personal letter... Signed letter on 9 Merton Street, Oxford stationary from Jean Maud, wife of Oxford Univ. dean and Royal John Maud, to a former tenant or debtor asking for payment due after finding long-lost check for said payment after three years time. Debtor’s whereabouts is unknown but she is returning the old check to him and playing the guilt card to perhaps recapture what’s owed after time passed. Lot consists of a 4 sided letter written in cursive on two pages, dated May 1937 and signed “Yours, Jean” on the last page. Included with the letter is the original long-lost check, dated 11/1/1934 and made out to Mrs. John Maud for thirteen pounds and thirteen shillings on a Lloyd’s Bank LTD bank note/check. Also included is the envelope cover with postage stamps, cancellation stamps and writing. Jean Hamilton Maud was quite the renaissance lady at Oxford University during her husbands tenure at the school, which was both long standing and with great merit.
