Description: Vintage fold-out 1936 Esso road map of New England, printed more than 88 years ago. The map opens to 28" x 21½" and has great detail on old highway alignments, with cartography by the General Drafting Company of New York. The coverage area includes Massachusetts, Connecticut, Rhode Island, Vermont, New Hampshire, and Maine. On the reverse side of the map there is an index to cities and towns, a list of public lands in New England, and inset plans of Boston and New York City. The New York City map shows numerous car ferry crossings on the Hudson and East Rivers. The Lincoln Tunnel had not yet been built, and the Triborough Bridge was under construction. The map was distributed by the Colonial Beacon Oil Company in 1936 to promote its Esso brand gasoline and motor oil. It is dated on the cover and would make a wonderful addition to your collection. The back cover shows a service station attendant and two Esso gas pumps. Condition: This map is in excellent condition, bright, crisp, and clean, with no rips, tears, or writing.
