Description: This is a Post Office OHMS type envelope franked with the 1d and 1 1/2d SJ stamps which correctly paid the letter rate to the USA. THis type of cover was often used to fulfil orders for stamps, especially SJ stamps at this time. Neil Donen has prepared a series of 3 articles about this kind of cover and the related stamp orders, which have appeared in Gibbons Stamp Monthly. The stamps are indistinctly cancelled, but most likely HAMILTON. The cover was opened by slitting at the top. For sendings over £50 I prefer to use tracked services - special delivery to UK addresses at £8.35, and tracked/signed air mail to the rest of the world (£8.15) and will invoice accordingly.
