1934 R136 National Chicle Sky Birds #36 Albatross-Taube PSA 2 VERY SCARCE ERROR

Description: 1934 National Chicle Sky Birds #42 Albatross - Taube Error (wrong card number - #36 Lindbergh) -- Graded PSA 2 (Good) Graded GOOD 2 by PSA. The reverse side shows #36 instead of #42. One of the five most valuable pre-World War II non-sport cards and until recently, not publicly known to most in the hobby. This 1934 "series of 48" error card was withdrawn very early in production by National Chicle once the numbering mistake was discovered and promptly replaced by the corrected version with the proper card #42 on back. Card #36, which shows on the reverse side, is actually Charles Lindbergh. Ten complete National Chicle Sky Birds master sets in high grade condition were assembled by a veteran collector in the 1970's and with unlimited resources, he was still only able to locate two of these specimens. The second example, in "Poor" condition, was supposedly sold a number of years ago to a veteran hobbyist. This scarce variation can be compared to the following short printed 1930's chase cards: R72 Schutter-Johnson I’m Going To Be - #4 A Strong Man R114 United States Caramel Company Presidents - William McKinley R172 Wild West Series - #25 Cowboy Outfit Free Similarly, in baseball cartephilia, there was the 1932 R328 U.S. Caramel Famous Athletes #16 Charles Lindstrom as well as the 1933 Goudey #106 Napoleon Lajoie, which could only be obtained in 1934 if one sent a SASE to the Goudey Gum Company of Boston, Massachusetts. The other noted scarcity that might serve as a good comparison from this era is the 1939 R51 Wilbur-Suchard Chocolates American Flag. However, none of them were actually withdrawn from national distribution such as with the 1937 F227-4 Famous Aviator cards of #7 Howard Hughes, #2 Amelia Earhart, #5 Laura Ingalls, #8 Captain Edwin Musick, and #9 Commander Frank Hawks. The Famous Aviators were not wrong numbers, however; just withdrawn cards similar to the legendary 1948 Leaf Boxing rarity of Rocky Graziano. For now, the 1934 National Chicle Sky Birds #36 Albatross-Taube variation is undoubtedly one of the most unique non-sport variation cards on the planet and certainly, one of the scarcest. Currently, there is only a single collector who can complete a master set of the 1933-34 R136 National Chicle Sky Birds.
