Description: 1930s high school yearbook featuring students and faculty, activities and sports, candids, shots of the school and surrounding, and including young pitcher and futture professional batting supernova Ted Williams who is pictured in varsity baseball with mentions. Great pictures and period design. Ted Williams played his entire 19-year Major League Baseball career as a left fielder for the Boston Red Sox, from 1939 to 1960; his career was interrupted only by mandatory military service during World War II and the Korean War. Williams was a nineteen-time All-Star, a two-time AL Most Valuable Player, six-time AL batting champion, and a two-time Triple Crown winner. He finished his playing career with a .344 batting average, 521 home runs, and a .482 on-base percentage, the highest of all time. His career batting average is the highest of any MLB player whose career was played primarily in the live-ball era. In 1941, Williams posted a .406 batting average, making him the last MLB player to bat over .400 in a season. Many consider him right beside Babe Ruth as the greatest hitter of all time. He was selected to the Major League Baseball All-Century Team, and was the recipient of the Presidential Medal of Freedom. Good plus condition hardback with tight binding and text and clean pages, with no must or mildew or smoke effects, with shelf wear primarily to the upper inch of the outer binding, and a small square cut-out r.o.t.c. picture of a student named Couvrette. Solid. Great rarity giving a great early look into the early life and times of one of the game's greatest. Spanky's Archive since 1986. Email or call us anytime. Thank you for stopping by!
