This East Aurora based artist was an early 20th century Neo-Realist whose paintings, drawings and sketches hung showed in over 200 exhibitions from The Salon in Paris, the Albright Knox to the Lincoln Center’s Cork Gallery. A student of such notables as Charles Burchfield and Millard Sheets, Underwood was herself a teacher and renowned lecturer on wood-cut prints. Underwood’s work communicates both realism and conceptual impressionism and she is remembered as a superb colorist, luminist and draftsman. All our Evelyn Notman Underwood pieces are original hand made pieces of art - no reproductions or copies, some of her early works are signed/initialed “EN” or “Evelyn Notman”, her maiden name.
