Description: You are looking at all original Martin model 2-17 made in late 1927, serial number 34XXX. The guitar has all original parts except for "tear and wear" items such as saddle, nut and frets. It recently went through a complete restoration process. It sounds excellent and feels basically like a new guitar with bar frets. Interestingly enough this was originally a Hawaiian style guitar later in its life converted to "normal" Spanish style of playing. This fact doesn't make it any more valuable but adds something as a conversation topic as there aren't many of these guitars around. Like most guitars of this vintage there are a lot of scratches and dings all around, but finish is all original, slightly sanded on sides, but no over-spray. Below is a list of work performed during restoration. It will also give you a good idea about guitar's condition. * Glue and reinforce sides - there was a long crack on both sides, glued and reinforced with cleats from inside * Small hole in upper side patched - small hole on the side is also reinforced from inside * Glue and cleat top cracks - two cracks on top, one is hardly noticeable, both fixed * Remove and glue back the bridge - bridge is original, but was re-glued * Remove, clean and reinstall tuners - original tuners completely restored, one of the buttons has a small chip, doesn't effect performance * Glue back some top braces - all braces are checked good and solid now. * Reset of the neck - neck was reset with 6/64th bass and 5/64th treble action and plenty of saddle to go lower * Planing fretboard to 16" radius - fingerboard now feels very fresh and smooth, width 1 13/16 at the nut * Compression re-fret w/ bar frets - new bar frets by TJ Thompson full height and relief is about .007 - .008 which is about perfect for a vintage guitar * Making new nut and saddle - new bone saddle and new ebony nut are installed. As you can see it's a pretty long list but in the end you get a 100 years old guitar that is ready for another 100 years journey. It's strung with .011 strings currently and handles them with easy. I probably would not recommend to go to higher tension though. Guitar comes with a chipboard case, not sure if it's original, but probably not. I will pack with a LOT of cushion for shipping.
