This rally was a benefit to help raise funds for the restoration of the USS Constitution, later known as Old Ironsides, a three-masted wooden-hulled heavy frigate launched in 1797 during the presidency of George Washington which remains today as the oldest commissioned naval warship still afloat. This poster extolls the viewer to “Save The Old Ship That Saved The Nation” and promises a performance by combined Army, Navy and Marine Bands led by John Phillips Sousa along with Eminent Speakers, Operatic Stars and a Patriotic Program. This June 1926 rally was one of the earlier events held in the third auditorium to be named Madison Square Garden in New York City which opened in 1925 and closed in 1968. This vintage original poster is extremely rare as Worldcat locates to no copies and we trace none at auction. This vintage original poster has been professionally linen backed. The poster had small punctures of about a half inch near each of the upper corners which have been expertly repaired as have pinholes on the upper corners. This poster displays beautifully and overall condition is very good.
