Description: 1921 Peace dollar, Uncirculated-Details (obverse only was cleaned) as authenticated / graded / encapsulated by NGC. It has been our privilege to stock and offer Peace dollars for the discerning buyer - perhaps one who is working on birthday presents! The 2020s generated, for reasons unclear even to experts, so much interest in the 1921, special and first issue, high relief and deep featured, coin of the Peace dollar series, that it has become the year's HOTTEST coin, or at least one of the hottest coins. Is it because of its 100-year anniversary? Or that it is the only really affordable, one-year type coin in high relief? Perhaps. We have acquired, and are acquiring, a very limited number of these coins to meet customer demand. Why clean an uncirculated coin? To determine this for sure is why our business model is to get coins we offer authenticated / graded / encapsulated as a rule. Believe it or not - and it is hard enough to - coin dealers and collectors were advised to clean their coins in the mid-20th century. It's just one of those professional knowledge bits that turned out to be wrong advice for the care of a coin that would be possessed and sustained across the centuries. It looks like this 1921 type coin received some old cleaning long ago, sometime between the 1930s-1950s, at a guess based on when most 19th-early 20th century coins were so conditioned. Many collectors and shoppers don't sweat the cleaning if it's light, as you do "buy the coin and not the slab" and what cannot be restored is wear through circulation. This provides a cost-saving opportunity for you, as "details" grades go for somewhere along 70% - 30% the price of a coin with a firm equivalent grade. This one was erroneously graded MS 64 before, and we do see that detail, even if NGC does not assign a Details scale number. We are pleased to make this opportunity available.
