[Franklin Floyd Ferris, himself (b. 1898 - d.1966) was a distinguished officer in the Navy. He entered the US Naval Academy in August of 1917. Serving as Midshipman aboard the USS Maine, operating with the Atlantic Squadron. Graduated and commissioned Ensign June 1921, he subsequently earned the rank of Captain, to date from June 1942. He was put on the Retired List in June 1952 and advanced to Rear Admiral on the basis of combat awards, but was retained on active duty in the rank of Captain. After graduation in Annapolis, he was at sea for 7 years, serving successively aboard the following ships:USS OklahomaUSS Charles AusburneUSS AntaresUSS ReidUSS PittsburghUSS HopkinsThen from 1928 to 1930 he served at the Navy Recruiting Station in Indianapolis Indiana. After which he joined the USS Chester for almost 3 years. He also commanded the USS Kane coming to the aid of US Citizens in Spain during their civil war.
