Description: Antique, Original 1917 ‘THE SCHWARZENBACH ENTERPRISES With Particular Reference to Schwarzenbach, Huber & Co. and The Schwarzenbach Huber Co. Presented to Co-Workers and Friends’ by ROBERT J. F. SCHWARZENBACH First edition. Fine press book in red and black with numerous plate lithograph illustrations, charts, & photographs, including many in color. Top edges of pages are gilded. Bottom edges of pages are rough cut or deckle edged. Half leather with rest of boards cover with patterned silk textile, which unfortunately has rubbed and frayed along the edges. 167 pages. Measures 9 1/4” x 12 1/4”. Some history: “Robert Schwarzenbach & Co (also referred to as Schwarzenbach, Huber & Co or The Schwarzenbach Enterprises) was a Swiss American textile manufacturing concern. Founded in 1829, the concern was active in silk and jacquard manufacturing. In 1928, Schwarzenbach was the largest textile company in the world exceeding 28,000 employees worldwide with a net turnover of 267 million Swiss francs. The majority of sales were generated in the United States through the subsidiary Schwarzenbach, Huber & Co based in New York City. In 1981, all manufacturing activities were seized and the concern was converted into a private real estate and investment vehicle currently still owned and managed by the Schwarzenbach family.” CONDITION: Excellent vintage, preowned condition. Leather has tears to edges. Silk textile is frayed. Book is tightly bound. Only fronts piece plate photo is a bit loose from binding, but still attached.
