Description: This gorgeous Durant Kilns Leon Volkmer bowl features a striking funnel shape in a deep turquoise blue speckled glaze. I have also seen similar finishes from this maker called a faience glaze. Signed and dated Durant 1916. CONDITION: One chip on underside foot; minor variations and bumps that appear original to making. I have tried to photograph it in a variety of lights to show its colors in different conditions. SIZE: About 5 3/4 inches tall x 13 3/4 inches in diameter. Durant Kilns Arts & Crafts period pottery is in the collections of the Art Institute of Chicago, The Brooklyn Museum, and the Philadelphia Museum of Art, among others. Durant Kilns was founded by Jean Durant Rice in 1910 in Bedford Village, NY, with Leon Volkmar overseeing production. After Rice died in 1919, Leon Volkmar ran the business; after 1930 only the Volkmar mark was used. A rare and collectible piece of art pottery suitable for an impressive display. I package my items with great care, and all fragile pieces are double boxed.
