It is prominently bedecked with a large, two stack Ocean Passenger Liner. Called, Liner Brand Cleaned Currants. Currants are similar to raisins. It is multi-colored and used gold gilded ink. The gilded ink glistens with its glimmering real Gold Dust & Gold Flake content! The Ship graphics has phenomenal details. The qualities and character are classic early 1900's, featuring fancy graphics. This distinctive box is from the 1890's through 1920's Food Processor, Coffee Roaster and Grocer Wholesaler, John Blaul's Sons Co. Burlington and Cedar Rapids, Iowa. They were an 1800's and early 1900's regional grocery distributor. They purchased food and provisions in large quantities, shipped them in on barges on the Mississippi River and processed and packaged goods in their own brand boxes & Packages and distributed them by rail to Ma & Pa grocers and General Stores Out West, for settlers and railroad towns, in the expanding frontier. They were one of the Largest Coffee Bean Roasters on the Mississippi River. They brought in large barges of Coffee Beans from South America. Roasted them and had several brands of 50 and 100 pound gunny sacks of roasted Coffee beans. The small grocers all had their own coffee grinders, and Blauls supplied different sizes and brands of boxes and bags for retail sales. Most railroads headed west had a Rail Head at the Mississippi River. They also packaged dried fruits and other grocery items. Currants are similar to raisins, and were popular with settlers because they had a long shelf life. It is 5 ½ inches tall, and held 11 ounces of imported, cleaned, currants.
