Description: PLEASE LOOK AT PHOTOS Very Good Condition. This is a undated ca 1900s - 1910s stationery letter from Harriet F. James of Ogdensburg NY to her attorney in the same town. She is asking him to handle the removal of her furniture into her attic. She names a Mrs. Egert, who was her long time companion (Mary P. Egert). Measures 5.5 x 6.5". Harriet Jane Fairchild James (1839-1917) was married to Henry Ripley James in 1861 and they had 3 children. One of her daughter's married Edward Curtis Smith of St. Albans, VT. (see below). There is a lengthy biography of Harriet James on the Ogdensburg Cemetery site. NOTES: Edward Curtis Smith President of the Central Vermont Railway and former VT Governor loved the outdoors and in 1897, built himself a large ten-bedroom and five-bathroom lodge on the north end of Victoria Lake, which he named Camp Madawaska. Two years later he was elected Governor of the State of Vermont and served for a standard two-year term.
