Description: About the listing - This listing is for the Harriet Isobel Adams print pictured. The print is a chromolithographic plate. The paper size is approximately 8 x 10.75 inches. Because every monitor displays differently, expect that there will be some variance between what you see on the monitor and how the print will look in your hands. The image is as representative of the actual print as I could make it. The print is in good condition over all. Some foxing, toning, offset or other physical defects may be visible. The print featured in this listing was printed either in 1907 or 1910 as the work was printed in two volumes, I have used the most recent date of 1910 to make sure that the print is "at least" as old as stated. No descriptive text is present for this print. About the work - Wildflowers of the British Isles - Illustrated & written by H. Isobel Adams. Revised by James E. Bagnell A.L.S. Published by William Heinemann, London. This work is extremely rare as it was published as a special subscriber edition, which indicates a very small print run. About the Author -Harriet Isobel Adams was a member of the Botanical Society of the British Isles and a fellow of the Linnaean Society. Adams was a graduate of Birmingham Art School. She worked in the Arts and Crafts style, designing bookplates and a children's book: Little Red Riding Hood and the History of Tom Thumb. As we know so little about her, but were astonished by the beauty of this work, suffice it to quote below part of an article published in 1907 by the Spectator (Archives): We have seen few flower drawings (always excepting Curtis's Flora Londinensis) that have given us so much pleasure to look at. From one to half-a-dozen plants are figured on a page; but Miss Adams manages to keep the character of each species distinct, and the grouping is often full of skill and grace. We have nothing but praise for the colouring, especially the various greens. The yellow of the rock-rose is beautiful, and the more subdued mauves and pinks are excellent. Note on Shipping - These prints will be shipped rolled. Rolling is cost effective & non-damaging. Many top tier print dealers roll their prints for shipment. Once your prints arrive, unroll them and put them between two heavy books for a couple of days and they should flatten out beautifully. Alternatively, your framer can press them out.
